Job Description

Cisco is hiring Embedded Software Engineers in Bangalore to develop low‑level software and firmware for networking equipment. The role involves designing and implementing control‑plane and data‑plane components, device drivers, kernel modules and board support packages, as well as performing software bring‑up, debugging, verification and unit testing. Candidates will work on Cisco IIoT switching and routing products, integrate software with hardware platforms, and leverage AI‑assisted development tools while maintaining high engineering standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Develop embedded C/C++ software for networking hardware
- Implement and maintain Linux kernel modules, device drivers and BSP components
- Design and code control‑plane and data‑plane functionalities
- Perform software bring‑up, debugging, root‑cause analysis and verification
- Write unit tests, automate validation and ensure software quality
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware and networking teams to integrate solutions
- Utilize AI tools to aid coding, testing and documentation
- Document designs, specifications and test results

Eligibility Criteria

- B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication or related field
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (1–2 years for Master’s degree holders)
- Strong proficiency in C and C++
- Good understanding of Linux, RTOS/Unix and kernel development
- Experience with networking equipment firmware and device drivers
- Familiarity with peripheral interfaces (PCIe, I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, Ethernet)
- Ability to use debugging and verification tools
- Good communication and teamwork skills
