The Mainframe Apprentice role at CGI is designed for fresh engineering graduates who have completed foundational training in mainframe technologies. The selected candidate will work under experienced team members, gaining practical exposure to mainframe application development, testing, job execution, and production support. Responsibilities include supporting mainframe application maintenance, creating and executing JCL jobs, performing basic COBOL coding and debugging, writing DB2 SQL queries, and analyzing compile and job errors. The role offers hands‑on experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, mainframe utilities and z/OS, along with exposure to modern tools such as Python, SQL, AI Governance, FastAPI and Oracle.

• - Support mainframe application development and maintenance activities under guidance.
• - Create, modify and execute basic JCL jobs and analyze outputs.
• - Perform basic COBOL coding, testing and debugging.
• - Write and execute DB2 SQL queries and assist with data tasks.
• - Analyse compile errors, JCL errors, job monitoring issues and abends.
• - Follow coding, testing, documentation and change‑management processes.
• - Learn and adapt to CGI’s mainframe applications, tools and business processes.
• - Collaborate with senior developers and support teams.
• - Gradually take ownership of assigned technical tasks.

• - Must have completed B.E/B.Tech.
• - Must be a fresher.
• - Should have completed foundational or relevant training in mainframe technologies.
• - Basic knowledge of mainframe application development, testing or support concepts.
• - Familiarity with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS and z/OS is preferred.
